Women in the Painting Industry

March 20, 2023

Women in the Painting Industry

The current landscape of women in the painting industry looks far better than it did just a few years ago. That being said, this industry of workers and business owners is still primarily male-dominated. Not just statistically – with 16.4% of house painters being women, and 42% of businesses being women-owned – but also socially. When most people think of the painting industry, they envision male workers, consultants, and owners. But that perception is changing, and we’re here to shine some light on women in this industry.

Learn more about the rise of women in franchising, and the benefits of a woman-owned painting company.

Challenges and Opportunities of Being a Female Entrepreneur

Despite the changing landscape, there are still many challenges that women entrepreneurs face, including:

  • Pay gaps. Overall, women working full-time in the U.S. earn 84% of what men do.
  • Funding limits. Due to cultural and social biases, it’s more common for women to be denied the same access to funding as men.
  • Lack of support. Unfortunately, leadership and ownership positions still cater to a more male-dominated workforce. This often leaves women without the robust support system and connections that their male counterparts otherwise receive.
  • Ethnicity biases. All of these challenges are made worse for women of color.

That being said, there is a rise in opportunities for women, especially in franchising, such as:

  • Increased franchise interest. According to Franchise Insights, women’s interest and information seeking on franchise development is now outnumbering men. This bodes well for a wider array of support resources and community for women.
  • Financial security. Owning a franchise specifically comes with more financial security in terms of startup investment support. Unlike opening a new startup that may not guarantee as much funding and require more investment in training and initial startup fees.
  • Training. Franchises are required to provide owners with thorough training, guidance, and support when starting and operating their business. This means having the guarantee of support when needed while still having complete control over your business.
  • Better opportunities. There are still many issues with pay and career development for women when it comes to being a business owner. Due to gender discrimination and wage gaps, it’s much more likely for women to pay themselves less (28% on average) than men in order to attract customers and be taken as seriously. Most franchises help reduce that risk by establishing equal opportunities and often additional minority support.

Color World Painting’s Women in Franchising

Currently, Color World Painting’s female franchise owners are excelling in all areas. One of our owners, Kristi Conrad, a franchise owner in South Denver Colorado, invested in this painting franchise because she has always loved houses. She received her degree in marketing and went on to become a real estate agent. Her favorite part of working in real estate was meeting people and selling their homes by making improvements. This ultimately drew her into painting, which led her to Color World Painting! Her tenacity and love for her business have greatly grown the Color World Painting franchise.

Why Consider a Woman-Owned Painting Company?

With Color World Painting, our services aren’t just about paint, they’re about home improvement.

As a woman-owned business, your company will have the opportunity, like Kristi, to pave the way for a more creative and woman-led home improvement landscape. This means having the opportunity to create more thoughtful and curated home improvements better suited for women . Not only does this influence the way that homes look and feel, but it also shapes the way these services are provided.

Ultimately, this helps pave the way for more women in leadership roles, more support, and services that better cater to women as leaders, employees, and consumers in this industry.
